The classic two-stage protocol separates implant placement from crown fixation. Between these steps, there are 2–6 months of osseointegration, during which the implant fully fuses with the bone. This is the most reliable and well-documented protocol, backed by decades of clinical evidence.
In cases of simultaneous bone grafting, in patients with increased risks, or when there is insufficient primary implant stability, the two-stage approach is the standard. Separating the stages allows for confirmation of complete integration before loading with a permanent crown — thereby minimizing the risk of long-term complications.
