What is a sinus lift

Sinus lift addresses one of the most common problems in upper jaw implantology: insufficient bone height beneath the maxillary sinus. Raising the sinus floor and filling the space with bone graft material creates the necessary conditions for secure implant placement.

Two options:

Open sinus lift — for bone deficiency less than 4–5 mm, via a lateral approach
Closed sinus lift — for a deficiency of 4–8 mm, through the implant socket (less invasive)

What you need to know:

After an open sinus lift, the implant is placed after 4–6 months
With a closed sinus lift, simultaneous implant placement is possible
The procedure is performed under local anesthesia

Open and Closed Sinus Lift: What's the Difference?

For bone deficiency less than 4–5 mm, an open sinus lift is performed via a lateral approach. When there is more residual bone (4–8 mm), a closed sinus lift is possible — through the implant socket, which is less invasive and has a shorter recovery period. With a closed sinus lift, the implant is often placed immediately.
